Vans disposition
Vans emailed me back about the two issues I posed (the incorrect rivet countersinking and the scratch on the spar). Gary in Builder Support said that while the rivet is slightly compromised, it is not advisable to remove or modify anything there. He advised lightly sanding any rough or raised edges and priming as required. (Not advice for your airplane, seek advice from Vans!) So we're completely unblocked there.
LSRM complete
Both Shelby and I are done with our LSRM class at Joby Aviation and we both passed. We're waiting on the FSDO but we'll both have LSRM-A, and we both now have our Rotax 9 Series iRMT Maintenance ratings!
The 6 day wrench week was awesome. We met some great people in our 11 person class and learned a lot. Thanks to Ben and Mike at Joby and Mike and Lauren at MotiveAero for setting up an awesome program.
Flightline Interiors
A couple of weekends ago we took a drive up to Wisconsin to meet with Abby and her husband at Flightline Interiors. We discussed the interior design, fabric options, and everything else. It was great to meet them in person and we're really excited to see their work when it's done.
Rib deburring
As for the plane, full steam ahead with deburring. Joby is an authorized builder and we saw an S-LSA RV-12iS they were building. We asked about their deburring methods for the ribs and they didn't have anything beyond what we're already doing. They said it was 50-60 hours for rib deburring, so we have a while to go.
We did find some new files while we were at the LSRM class. I bought a few varieties and they're helping a bit, but it's still a slow process.
We're going to try to finish all of the ribs before we spend an entire day cleaning, etching, and priming everything we have so far. That's going to be a full day of work.
Don't expect any more pictures or updates until the rib deburring is completed.
Hours
Another 11 hours combined since the last update (2.1 for me, 7.9 for Shelby, 1 for our exchange student). Wings are now at 40.2 combined hours. Total across the whole build is 255.2.
